John Gillis to Andrew Dorsey a fifty acre tract of land,

In the left column is a transcript of a scan of a photocopy of a document from the Maryland Archives that was placed in a Dorsey surname folder in the genealogy section of the Salisbury, North Carolina Library by Elmer L. Dorsey of Hendersonville, North Carolina sometime before his death in 1995.

This Indenture made this Eleventh day of April in the Year of our Lord One thousand Seven hundred and Sixty three Between John Gillis of Ann Arundel County in the Province of Maryland Planter of the one Part and Andrew Dorsey of Baltimore County in Province aforesaid Planter on the other Part, Witnesseth that he the said John Gillis for and in consideration of the sum of Twenty Pounds Sterling money of Great Britain to him in hand paid by the said Andrew Dorsey the Receipt whereof he both hereby acknowledge, and thereof both acquire and discharge the said Andrew Dorsey his heirs and assigns forever.  Doth grant, Bargain, Sell Alien [alien] and Confirm unto him the said Andrew Dorsey his heirs and assigns forever fifty acres of Land being part of a Tract of Land called and known by the name of Batchelors Refuge lying and being in Baltimore County.  Beginning at three bounded Red Oaks standing at the mouth of a small draught near the head of the White Marshes which descends into Dellaware falls Being the Original Beginning trees of said Land, and also the original beginning of a tract of Land Called Dorseys Prospect.  And turning then South Twenty five degrees West one hundred and Eighty four Perches South forty two degrees East four Perches North forty seven and half Degrees East forty perches, North Sixty Six degrees East fifty four Perches North Twenty three and half Deg. East One hundred and thirty One perches then with a straight line to the beginning bondary and laid out for fifty acres of Land To have and To hold the aforesaid bargained Land and premises and every part thereof with the appurtenances unto the said Andrew Dorsey Use and Behoof and the said John Gillis both for himself, his heirs, assigns Covenant grant and agree to and with the said Andrew Dorsey his Heirs and assigns the said parcel of Land and premises unto him the said Andrew Dorsey his Heirs and assigns forever, against all Persons Claiming from by or under him the said John Gillis.  In Witness whereof the said John Gillis hath here unto set his hand and seal the day and year above written, the Rents that may now or hereafter becomedue to the Lord Proprietary only to be paid by said Andrew Dorsey his heirs or assigns.

On the back of the aforegoing Deed was this written

Maryland Ann Arundel County April 11th 1763 

Then came the within named John Gillis before me the Subscriber one of his Lordships Justices of the Provincial Court of the province aforesaid and acknowledged the within Indenture to be his act and deed and the Land and premisses therein Mentioned to be the Right of Estate of the within named Andrew Dorsey his Heirs and assigns forever according to the true intent of meaning of the within Indenture and the Act of Assembly in such Cases made & provided.

April 11, 1763 Received of the within named Andrew Dorsey full Satisfaction for the within Sum of Twenty Pounds Sterling Money aforesaid.
